a fine sing, wish you could have joined us, or rather wish we could have joined you, for I don't think you would be contented here or would better your circumstances by coming, and such as I should like to live near you I would try and not be so selfish as to advise you to come while I thought it would be to your disadvantage - though of course I am not a competent judge in the matter of acquiring property - but I do not see that the people here enjoy themselves any better than they do East. Mr Shaw of Exeter made his appearance here yesterday, don't know whether he intends to buy or not he asked father to day if you was coming out here I wanted to tell him you was a goose if you did - but contented myself with thinking so - Alfred and John are getting out stone for the cellar wall - we are in hopes to get up something in the shape of a house to live in this winter - I suppose you will think by my writing that I am very dissatisfied with the country - well I am with somethings, but there are others more favorable - probably I have not been here long enough yet to know whether I shall be contented or not - Theodore's folks have a large family. Mr Hale and his wife board there, and they have two half-breeds to educate and a man that has taken part of his farm boards with him. Mrs Hale is there now. Emily is teaching at Point Douglas, they have congregational preaching here half of the time the meetings have been held in Warren's log house but they will be moved now to another vacant house, they need a school house a meeting house here very much, do you remember that Patten? that used to live on Mr Lee's farm? he lives now not but a little way from us - I have had one horseback ride rode about four miles - wasn't that doing pretty well for the first time? Emma and I talk of riding over to Olives if we can get the houses, Em is having two weeks vacation now it is the hardest work to ride in their waggons here. they are great double go carts I call them, Theodore has a buggy but it is out of repair - we are going in search of strawberries tomorrow, they are ripe but not very plenty here I think -tis time to set the table for tea I mus put this away now and finish it sometimes this week, the maid will not go out till Saturday we looked for a letter from you last week but was disappointed, we are very anxious to hear from Lucy
