18 II The resurrection of Christ has a Justifying power The whole doctrine of justification is based upon the fact that Christ rose from the dead. He died as a sacrifice but he rose to prove that justice was satisfied. There was no yielding, its grasp suited the utmost of the debt was paid. He must die to redeem us from the curse of the law being made a curse from us, but he must rise again to claim his own and to present us to God. He was promised that he should see of the travail of his soul and should be satisfied. The heathen were given him for his inheritance and the utter most part of the Earth for his possession, but he must rise again to enter into the purchase of his death. The surety of every believer is conditioned upon the presence of the risen Lord in the day of judgment. God will condemn all who have no intercessor in that day. Our blessed
