September, Thursday, 10. 1863.    Warm as usual & no wind.  he Genl has been annoying us all day & I have ben retaliating in the same way.    Sent order for Vicksburg which was not obeyed.  Sent for butcher Knives not sent.  Recd order near night relieving me from command & the adjt too.  War has begun.  Retired late     Capt Wilson returned

Friday, 11Warm as usual - all quiet & no news from any quarter   No boats up nor down.  Attended Battalion drill myself today.  Troubled but little by the Genl to daySumner returned to his Reg for duty.  Read some & slept a littleAm enjoying myself in a quiet way.

Saturday, 12.    Warm as usual.  Recd letters this morning - one from Sister Libbie & one from Sherman.  Answered Shermans letterRode out as far as Harts with Col Peebles - had a pleasant time.  At night called upon Col Risden.  Genl came while was there.  Things are becoming interesting.  Damnably so!   Expedition of boats from up river
