    The President of the Co. running between this place and Scott is here and tells me today that the best route is a daily line to Kansas City. Fare Kansas City to Fort Scott $10. Distance 95 miles. Time 48 hours Fare Fort Scott to Gibson $16. Distance 168 miles Time 3 days  There are stages lines either daily or tri-weekly running from Fort Scott to Pleasant Hill, Neb. (on the R.R. 30 miles East of Kansas City)  to Lawrence and to Ottowa at latter Place connecting with railroad to Lawrence. But if transportation by wagon is ample. time not specially pressing and you are bringing horses and carriages I should very decidedly recommend your coming across the country as I did - following my trail. You will see the best of Kansas and have nice little towns to stop at all the way. You could easily make the trip in fifteen days with a wagon train and should you choose could leave the train behind and come on in ten days yourself -- or less.
    The house for the commanding officer here is being very rapidly completed. It will have all the masonry done within a fortnight - will be roofed in at once then - and as all the wood work is all ready there will be no delay in finishing unless it is on account of the flooring.  there may be trouble in getting that. There is none within 100 miles.
    I have at last completed my great work -- my stable is done -- and now [[lined out]] I am able to have drills daily.
