185 you are 'keeping up to the windward of same and soon as commences follow up immediately in it's wake, by so doing you are out of danger of the fire that is coming down upon you as it is checked in it's course as soon as it reached the point where you set fire.- this is but one among the many sad, and fearfull scenes we have experienced on this trip- not sufferers lookily, however' from all, we have witnessed- but enough to satisfy us now, if not before we started on this journey./ That it was, one- and has been only in which one is in constant danger from beginning to end, day & night.- then again- we have had the pleasure of knowing the most splendid scenery on this continent, at least; if not, in the known world. now has this been all: such unaccountable curiosities too,- that one could hardly believe his own Eyes- Ears- or hands, till forced to- or compelled to, from his own personal experiences, observations- and too immeasurable to be mentioned at this time was I able to.- would just mention here now having witnessed it today in our travels more distinctly than before, as [[unclear]], as the most deeeplived- the mirages, here in this valley- one would almost take his oath that he saw a village- fields- forests- persons- or cattle- some times one, - some times another, |
