The use of mocassins contributes very much to the elegant walk of the Indian - the feet have then their natural elasticity & by comparison the wearer of shoes or boots has a hobbled & awkward gate. We, who call ourselves civilized, scarce know what the natural walk of man is, we are so accustomed to the hampered motions of Clodhoppers and dandies.
