The things which have been mentioned make way for, and bring us unto the second case which is to come under our consideracon. Viz. If one bewitched be struck down [crossed out - witches?with the?] at the looke, or Cast of the eye of another and after that recovered again by a touch [crossed out: o] from the same person, is not this an infallible proof that the party sus= pected & complained of is in league with the divel. ANSWER it must be owned that by such things as these Witch= crafts have been discovered more than once or twice & that an ill fame or other circum stances attending the suspected party, this may be a good ground for Examination: but this alone doth not afford sufficient matter for Conviction. As spectres or Divels appearing in the shape of persons that have been murdered, de= claring that they were murdered by such persons in Such a place, may give Just occasion for the magistrates enquiry into the matter.
