Sir,
                Lieut. Colonel Davidson, Commanding at Sill, reports that he has information to the Effect that Lone Wolf is organizing a party of the purpose of recovering the body of his son killed in Lieut. Hudson's fight and avenging his death.

                                        I am in receipt of your letter of the 4th inst.  Since we have been able to Effect satisfactory leases for our Military Posts in this Department. I do not think I have in but one case recommended the purchase of such sites,

Sir:

            I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 17th inst., and in reply, the Department Commander directs me to inform you that he has no authority to make any arrangements with the Indians referred to.
            He further directs that you should meet them and ascertain when and where they wish to go and whether or not they can transport themselves, also if the Lepans will join them, and if they intend to go to the Indian Country, in case the Government consents.
            Your communication will be forwarded for instructions.
