MacKenzie reports from Camp on branch of Pease River Oct. 16. that he followed large trail Comanches, Kiowas and Cheyennes to near mouth of Mulberry Creek on Red River where trail turned North. Horses could follow no further - hopes to move again shortly. Has sent train into Camp Supply. Thinks Corn should be pushed from Camp Supply to McClellan's Creek and from Bascom New Mexico to Juanta des Cordose on upper Red River. Thinks Indians will hang about ravines on Edge of Plains between headwaters of North Fork and Red River or Canadian. Anderson from Camp Supply Oct. 19. reports arrival of MacKenzie's train much broken down. Supplies go out fast as possible. Following just received. Hdqrs. Mil. Div. Mo., Wichita Agency, Oct. 25, via Caddo, to Asst Adjt. Gen'l. San Antonio. | |||
"The Indian war in this section is rapidly collapsing. Davidson reports through scouts this evening that Major Schofield's column has captured on Elk Creek sixty nine (69) Noconic warriors and two thousand (2000 ponies. This party is of the worst character and is accompanied by their families. I met Capt. Carpenter with his column in hot pursuit of a large party of Kiowas, who are trying to get to Fort Sill to surrender before he can overtake them, he had been in pursuit two (2) days, the party is thought to be Lone Wolf's. I have not heard from Miles since my last dispatch. It is more than probable that the presence of General Augur will be required at Fort Sill after his return from the East. | |||
