having killed another of the horse thieves, "Summers", a deserter from the 7th Cavalry, and captured one "Williams", beside recovering nine horses and ponies.

   I have to send out four men in the morning to relieve the citizen Couriers between here and Arbuckle.  I shall send dismounted men and let them take the mules now on the line.  We are having lovely weather now and your house is progressing well.  It is boarded in all round.
   I look for a letter from you by the morning mail.  Have not had a word since you left.  Capt. Alvord has come on the train and I think intends to leave in a few days without authority.
