The prisoners have been taken away from me on "Habeas Corpus" and are now in jail at Van Buren. I will send in a few days a full official report with copies of the writ and the record of the Court in these cases, which makes my record clear.

I have heard today of a man answering the description of Spraff (who escaped from me) with handcuffs on, being in the Arkansas Bottom opposite here. I think I will send out a party tomorrow and search the country for him. If it is him, it has been ten days since he escaped and he has not succeeded in getting his handcuffs off.
Write me at Paducah Ky, as I think I shall get away from here about the last of this month.
          Very Respectfully
