They must be so humbled as to be willing to obey God implicitly & universally, without murmuring or hesitation, & depend upon him alone, & upon no other. To effect this, t. Lord commonly marks out a path for them, totally different fr. what they naturally wish, or any human wisdom could suggest. Perhaps fr. their first setting out with their faces Zionward, he breaks all their plans, & he lead them in a most crooked, thorny, road. It may be he takes away their temporal interest & makes them wretched in a temporal view. Sometimes he takes
