Dear Jackson

I think I know what you mean about killing snakes. I've been so damn busy I haven't even been able to use the phone for an easy way to avoid writing. The wedding was an overwhelming success in every way and I am living in a new world all dimmed out with a stardust fog. But I did get a helluva lot done before coming here a little more than 24hours

ago. I will stay here as much as I can and almost all of the time until Lu is able to come with me probably before the end of the year.

We live less than two blocks N E of the old Washington monument that is the center of the city. Very easy to find when and if you are passing by. The phone number is VErnon 7 2489. Yesterday I lunched in the Sage of Baltimore's favorite stube on knockwurst, sauerkraut and Pabst, whic [sic] had been brewed I believe in poluted [sic] hudson River water. It had all kinds of atmosphere in the famous 2nd hand book shop but unless I can get Millers Highlife, Blatz or some true Milwaukkee [sic] or imported beer, I probably won't go back.
Glad you are going back over my Oregon Trail as well as so many other places. And that you are grinding things out again. When and if I can get things going the way they should I may take a whirl at helping support the family with my typewriter.
Since there are dozens of other letters 1/2iled [sic] at my side, I am going to make this brief as you may not see it for weeks anyway. Hope you can drop in here or there sometime before very long. Barrytown is becoming a colony like Woodstock. Mary Lee Settle is a new neighbor two doors away -- a couple young Bard students will be my nearest neighbors after buying the Oaks for some 50 "G's" And there are any number of new professors, artists etc moving in nearby.
Elizabeth is E. Louise like I am F.Vernon but she is like winning the Sweepstakes. I am sure you three will enjoy each other.

May we all live foreve [sic] and enjoy doing it The Surde Many thanks for all of the interesting enclosures
