  Major G. W. Bonnell a Lawyer, was appntd by Houston in June 1838. "Commissioner
of Indian affairs" - & orders to measure off a league of land to each Indian Village 30th Augt 1838.
Bonnell [[mustrd?]] in July for his trip - Austin is on the top of the intend town of
Waterloo - & 50 Miles above Austin is the seat of the intended town of La Fayette. Ford Falls of the
Colorado 3 to 4 Miles from Austin & must be the head of steam boat navigation -
  Bonnell accompd the Santa Fe expedition & managed to save part of his Journals & when in [[?]] concluded them La Mar promised that
he should be the historian of the Expedition & attached to the Commissioners - but Falconer came out so highly recommended
by A. & B. that, the Scientific & historical part was entrusted to him.  Bonnell who had fought hard for Lamars Administration conducting
the Texas District felt this severely, was determined to go - & joined the ranks.
Then M.S.S. McDonald thinks as in Cruger & Moore [[?]] at
