The Cruize of the Lafitte was under the command of Capt John Wade | The Cruize of the Lafitte - was under the command of Capt. John Wade; Capt. J. Haviland his second in command. The company of Coast Guards, with volunteers for the Cruize amounting to 100 men, accompanied by Capt. Swingle & his company of Fusiliers armed with patent Rifles, having bayonets, habited in a modest uniform. The "Coast Guards", more with an eye to uniformity adopted Red [[?]] shirts, White trousers & straw hats armed with Muskets, & pistols, pikes and boarding sword. But there was no scarcity of hatchets, Tomahawks & Bowie knives for close quarters of [[?]]. We have a fine [[?]] Brass gun in the bows, and two iron Cannonades on either side; plenty of Ammunition, Provisions and brandy other comforts on board, in the shape of 'Small Stones' not forgetting the Pig tail or as known in this country under the name of 'Honey Dew plug Tobacco & sugar |
