Thursday 25th.  floating light on side Carys fort reef 8 to 10 miles W.S.W.  Current not very strong.  Light E. winds & occasionally calm - American [[3 unclear words]] 86º Noon -Yesterday violent Thunder Storm & [[2 unclear words]] us - No harm to have had one of [[?]] Harris' Lightning Conductors.

Friday 26th - Noon 28º  N 79º 20!  Off Matamilla bank & out of the Strait of Florida - We must have had a 4 o 5 knot current during the night got into the ripple caused by current - there is no danger as was formerly supposed at this point Several vessels [[?]]
Sunday August 4th.  Since leaving Galveston we have had little else than Esterly or head winds - now & then for a few hours we would get a [[2 unclear words]] out of the Gulf of Florida - Squalls - rain - Much lightning & Thunder - To day set in fine Westerly S. Westerly
