Hattie is having a fine time seems to enjoy her stay here very much it is amusing to see how observant she is of some things, she already knows the names and faces of more young men & women and girls too in this place than some would in seven years with the same opportunity. But it is not so easy for her to think to learn & know what she has learn'd - I guess she is very apt to forget what she has learn'd - she & all of us are thinking now to have her try to get into the high school - I very much fear that she cannot pass a regular examination for some things required she has not attended to - Eliab thinks it may be that he can get her in from having Lawyer Humphrey who is one if the committee in his interest or thro his means somehow
