166. of mercy to thousands of those who love God and keep their commandments, is annexed to the 2nd command.t To this it may be replied that this is a promise to those who keep all God's commandments or love Him but their command.t contains the first particular promise made to obedience to one single command.t & it is the pri?? Com.t of ? 2nd ?able that has a special prom annexed?. Thus have we shown the various duties and obligations contained in the precepts of filial Duty.

   Some reflections will close this discourse. 
1. As the obligations of children to parents is placed as at the head of all moral and relative duties towards men, we infer the great duty of filial obedience and to honor parents by loving their persons - obeying their lawful commands and seeking their interest, comfort and happyness in all respects, let me now urge as a great and incumbent duty upon all children. 
  As filial duty lays the foundation for a virtuous, useful & happy life and a comfortable old age; it is of the utmost importance that children learn early to reverence and obey their parents. Proverbs 4.1. Hearken ye children to the instructions of a father, and attend to know understanding. 
 My son, says Solomon, attend to know wisdom and bow down their ear to understanding. Experience and wisdom are to be expected from the aged and to them should children hearken.
