we have had sorrows, yet that none of them have left Remorse behind, whose sting is eternal torment. Of my plans for the future, I am still in the dark; but I borrow no trouble. and look forward only with hope: hope less clouded than any I have dared to entertain for years and years. And I can assure you now, as I have done at least once before, that in the brightest picture of the future which comes to my mind, glowing with all the beautiful colors which "Hope, Sweet Hope" lend: there you are the very, very centre of the scene. And now don't laugh- but the vision which comes to me oftenest is, seeing you in the bright morning, mounted upon a beautiful pony, such as ladies ride here, dashing away, the plume in your hat and your handkerchief waving me a challenge to overtake you as we start out from the "Agency" on a frolic. O, we shall have some gay, festive and innocent sprees next summer - if all goes well. Meantime
