The exact amount I proposed to furnish him an instrument for I do not now remember but think it was much below the price. I did this on the covenant of his having favored me in reducing the price of his work on the expectation of his continuing to do so. Your Note of the 25th came while I was absent having returned I hasten to reply I am still agent for Power? & Co. & remember having conversation with your lamented Br on the subject you speak of. The exact amount I proposed to furnish him an instrument for I do not now remember but think it was much below the price. I did this on the covenant of his having favored me in reducing the price of his work on the expectation of his continuing to do so. In consideration of my personal regrets for your departed Br. & desire to make some little return for his kindness if not to him, yet to one whom he delighted to please I will make you a reduction from the usual price.
