Do you ever hear from your friend Mr S. I believe he is teaching school in Paris. Alexander McLean is teaching in Marcy. I wish you was one of his scholars, I shall see him Sunday and will give him the note you sent. The thought it strange you did not give him your card before you left. He speaks of that ride to the Falls as one of the unhappy days of his life. But I do not believe that, he could but have been happy with sweet Hannah and Louisa. I had not heard before I received your letter where Miss House? was. Do you know where Miss Haley is spending the winter? Is Mary at home or at her sisters this winter? I have not heard or seen anything of her since you left. Jane did you ever hear Winchell the celebrated comic? player, If you have not I hope you will go and hear him if you ever get an opportunity. I heard him last week in Utica It would not do for people to wear tight clothes when they go to hear him, for reasons you very well know. Have you had a sleigh ride this winter if you have when you write tell me all about it. It has been excellent sleighing here all winter I have had a number of sleighrides . Since you left we have been called to mourn the loss of my sisters husband you have seen his daguerritype. He died in Sept. and we trust he is now conversing with angels and saints above. It pleases me much to hear that your improve you time so well. I think nothing is so important as the cultivation of the mind by bestowing upon it all those solid and ornemental embellishments which are the results of a good education. There is nothing else which contributes so much to extend womans influence as intelligence, to see her enter with an unembarassed manner into any subject on which the con-
