After hearing the clause in Major Ingles letter to Mr OHanlon read making suggestions to the agent, I proposed to him, in view of the small amount of property belonging to the agency and in the absence of any instructions by Major T. J. Mitchell, that he and I should jointly send a messenger to Jeauneaux trading post in quest of information, which idea he did not entertain for a moment, saying that it was the business of the "government" |
