clear stream at the bottom of the cañon. but they did not get a bite.  After resting an hour or so, we started back, and while ascending my horse steped on a slippery rock and lost hos footing and was going down when I caught a saplin and pulled him and myself [[unclear]] into the path again. Started after two bears (an old one and a cub) when we had reached the top. Harwood chased the old one and headed it off but the bear made for him and as his revolver missed fire he had to retreat. Teuksberry killed the cub. and as his horse got away while he was dressing it he stuck his gun up with his coat on it, and says that will keep the wolves from touching the carcase.
