In the afternoon I went to the President's reception. Had the pleasure of shaking hands with "Honest Abe." He seemed in good spirits & looked well. Went to the Soldier's Free Library & along with about 2000 soldiers received some apples & cakes sent by the ladies of Mass [SUNDAY 27] | |||

This was a great day in this city. In the forenoon all the distinguished military men in the city called in a body on Sec. Stanton. at the head of the column was Gen Halleck. I recognised Gen. H.
