__________________________________________________- When winter's gems of frozen dew Reflect the golden ray, The sun that gilds, destroys them too, In tears they melt away. When Spring's gay violates bloom at noon, And odorous gales supply, Nipp'd by the evening frost, how soon Their bloom and odors fly. The Summer's rose, in dewy morn, Full bloom'd the garden's plume, Soon scatters from the naked thorn, And tastes the last perfume. When evening musts in Autumn rise, We start a glow worm lights The vagrant fire, while yet our eyes Pursue, dissolves in night Such are the charms that mortals wear, Such a beauty's vain parade: Thus of the young the old the fair The transient graces fade.
