Dear Mother
We were abominably disappointed sorry, and badly grieved not to receive any latter from you the past. Being on an independent turn of mind myself, I were very strongly inclined to hold my piece, and say we could get along if you could. But Joseph, who you know habitually tyrannizes over me, imperatively requires me to write to send the major who is going down to carry John tomorrow I spect. We must respectfully request you to bring up Lucy and yourself as soon as possible. We are a good deal persecuted here in your absence by mosquitoes, Almeda &c. I keep things pretty well under control generally, but Almeda is sometimes refractory, coming in upon us and in spite of my most strenuous exertions, turning up red, in shape of washing, mending &C the mosquitoes we wage war upon generally.
