Thus far, except the bitter parting from friends, it has been almost unalloyed pleasure, new scenes, new means of information and improvement; - I wrote you how the time passed at Hartford, I must now give you an account of my journey which has been truly delightful: Gov Slade and Rev. Mr. Newbury - the agents of the Society who receive the applications spent the last few days with us at Hartford and have accompanied us to this place. Mr. Newbury goes with us to the end of our journey but Gov Slade turned his horse (?) from us toward the east this morning to our sorrow, I despair of giving you an idea how good and how noble Gov. Slade is - the perfect pattern of a Christian gentleman. We started in the cars 7 A.M. it will be a week ago tomorrow - all 24 of us - arrived at Albany at 2 P.M. dined and took tea at the Delaware house, the best hotel, every thing was in splendid style, our gentlemen had business there, so we waited for the evening train, which gave me a fine opportunity to stroll about the city a little  I went into the State House which is prettily situated on an eminence surrounded by a high wall enclosing gravel walks, grass plats, and trees: I went into the Senate chamber and Historical rooms, very fine, many beautiful pictures & statues.
