vacation. I presume Eliab has written frequently to you since he has been gone, always directing it "Locust Hill", as he knew of no other direction when he went away. Ellen Brown and her husband spent the night here on their return from Mass. last week. Clara Greenleaf's husband, at Springfield, died recently of the Cholera. It has prevailed there considerably this summer. It is very dry here now. No rain for long time but cold weather & some slight frosts. Asa Walker advertises his place for sale. Letters from Minn. wonder why you don't go there and see the country, now you are so near. Alfred has bought a piece of land. Mother and Mehitable are not very well contented now. We hope they will be more so after they get more settled. They do not advise us to go out there. Eliza Ann Low, Mary Frost and Lucy Searles are proposed for admission to the Cong. Church in Milo. Mr Jones (the former Baptist minister) has, since they were proposed, been laboring with Mrs Low and Mary Frost to make them Baptists. Angella Frost has joined the Baptist Church, and when he was leading her into the water, he turned to Mary and asked her if she was ready to be baptized. Said he would give five dollars a text for passages to prove that sprinkling was right &c. &c. It seemed a very inappropriate time for such talk. Must have detached from the solemnity of the occasion very much. I have been so naughty as to take up all the room - Mother can put in half a sheet - good bye - your sister Lucy. I think she has as Charles said about Albina's letter not left much room nor much to put in it. She has written like a good girl pretty much all I think of that would be interesting to you. Lucy can ? over a sheet of paper so quick that I put it upon her mostly I had begun a letter tho' but it is pretty much the same - we had letters from Charles Albina & Almeda last week about all the help he has had since Christopher went away middle of june was but Franklin Hart one month and little Jamie - Charlie begins to load Hay - did part of one load
