Dear Mrs. Metcalf, I ought long ago to have acknowledged letters of sympathy from yourself and mother, but have had little leisure this season in consequence of having no help in the house that I find it hard to get time to write many letters, but we often think and speak of you remembering how happy the children were at your house, The winter here thus far has been very cold. I think we never had so much very cold weather so early in the winter. Minnie walks more than a mile to school, She has gone frequently when the mercury ranged from twenty to twenty-five below zero. Little Isabel seems quite well most of the time though she has occasional spells of violent beating of the heart which gives us some uneasiness. We don't know whether Olive's disease commenced in that way but think there must have been something wrong about her a long time before we were aware of it.
